    Comparing quasiparticle H2_2O level alignment on anatase and rutile TiO2_2

    Knowledge of the molecular frontier levels' alignment in the ground state can be used to predict the photocatalytic activity of an interface. The position of the adsorbate's highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) levels relative to the substrate's valence band maximum (VBM) in the interface describes the favorability of photogenerated hole transfer from the VBM to the adsorbed molecule. This is a key quantity for assessing and comparing H2_2O photooxidation activities on two prototypical photocatalytic TiO2_2 surfaces: anatase (A)-TiO2_2(101) and rutile (R)-TiO2_2(110). Using the projected density of states (DOS) from state-of-the-art quasiparticle (QP) G0W0G_0W_0 calculations, we assess the relative photocatalytic activity of intact and dissociated H2_2O on coordinately unsaturated (Ticus_{\textit{cus}}) sites of idealized stoichiometric A-TiO2_2(101)/R-TiO2_2(110) and bridging O vacancies (Obrvac_{\textit{br}}^{\textit{vac}}) of defective A-TiO2−x_{2-x}(101)/R-TiO2−x_{2-x}(110) surfaces (x=14,18x=\frac{1}{4},\frac{1}{8}) for various coverages. Such a many-body treatment is necessary to correctly describe the anisotropic screening of electron-electron interactions at a photocatalytic interface, and hence obtain accurate interfacial level alignments. The more favorable ground state HOMO level alignment for A-TiO2_2(101) may explain why the anatase polymorph shows higher photocatalytic activities than the rutile polymorph. Our results indicate that (1) hole trapping is more favored on A-TiO2_2(101) than R-TiO2_2(110) and (2) HO@Ticus_{\textit{cus}} is more photocatalytically active than intact H2_2O@Ticus_{\textit{cus}}

    Performance Analysis of Doubly Excited Brushless Generator with Outer Rotor for Wind Power Application

    In this paper, a novel doubly excited brushless generator (DEBG) with outer radial laminated magnetic barrier rotor (RLMB-rotor) for wind power application was designed and analyzed. The DEBG has 10 rotor pole numbers with outer rotor. Its performance was investigated using the 2D transient finite element method. The magnetic fields, torque capability, end winding voltage characteristics, radial magnetic force and energy efficiency were analyzed. All studies in this paper show that the simplicity, reliability, high efficiency and low vibration and noise of the DEBG with outer rotor were attractive for variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) wind power generation system

    Feature Representation Learning with Adaptive Displacement Generation and Transformer Fusion for Micro-Expression Recognition

    Micro-expressions are spontaneous, rapid and subtle facial movements that can neither be forged nor suppressed. They are very important nonverbal communication clues, but are transient and of low intensity thus difficult to recognize. Recently deep learning based methods have been developed for micro-expression (ME) recognition using feature extraction and fusion techniques, however, targeted feature learning and efficient feature fusion still lack further study according to the ME characteristics. To address these issues, we propose a novel framework Feature Representation Learning with adaptive Displacement Generation and Transformer fusion (FRL-DGT), in which a convolutional Displacement Generation Module (DGM) with self-supervised learning is used to extract dynamic features from onset/apex frames targeted to the subsequent ME recognition task, and a well-designed Transformer Fusion mechanism composed of three Transformer-based fusion modules (local, global fusions based on AU regions and full-face fusion) is applied to extract the multi-level informative features after DGM for the final ME prediction. The extensive experiments with solid leave-one-subject-out (LOSO) evaluation results have demonstrated the superiority of our proposed FRL-DGT to state-of-the-art methods

    Visual impairment and spectacle coverage rate in Baoshan district, China: population-based study

    BACKGROUND: To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of visual impairment associated with refractive error and the unmet need for spectacles in a special suburban senior population in Baoshan District of Shanghai, one of several rural areas undergoing a transition from rural to urban area, where data of visual impairment are limited. METHODS: The study was a population based survey of 4545 Chinese aged (age: >60 years or older ) at Baoshan, Shanghai, in 2009. One copy of questionnaire was completed for each subject. Examinations included a standardized refraction and measurement of presenting and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) as well as tonometry, slit lamp biomicroscopy, and fundus photography. RESULTS: The prevalence of mild (6/12 to 6/18), moderate (6/18 to 6/60) and severe visual impairment was 12.59%, 8.38% and 0.44%, respectively, and 5.26%, 3.06% and 0.09% with refractive correction. Visual impairment was associated with age, gender, education and career, but not insurance . The prevalence of correctable visual impairment was 5.81% (using 6/18 cutoff) and 13.18% (using 6/12 cutoff). Senior people and women were significantly at a higher risk of correctable visual impairment, while the well-educated on the contrary. The prevalence of undercorrected refractive error (improves by 2 or more lines with refraction) was 24.84%, and the proportion with undercorrected refractive error for mild, moderate , severe and no visual impairment was 61.54%, 67.98%, 60.00% and 14.10%, respectively. The spectacle coverage rate was 44.12%. Greater unmet need for spectacles was observed among elderly people, females, non-peasant, and subjects with less education and astigmatism only. CONCLUSIONS: High prevalence of visual impairment, visual impairment alleviated by refractive correction, and low spectacle coverage existed among the senior population in Baoshan District of Shanghai. Education for the public of the importance of regular examination and appropriate and accessible refraction service might be helpful to solve the problem

    Digestive System of Anourosorex squamipes - Appearance and Morphological Features

    Background: Anourosorex squamipes have a wide range of feeding habits, which is a kind of omnivorous animal. As an indispensable part of organisms, the differentiation degree of digestive system indicates the evolution degree of species. The higher the evolution degree of animals, the higher the differentiation of digestive system. At present, the research on Anourosorex squamipes digestive system mainly focuses on its feeding habits and mainly depends on the direct observation of gastric contents with the naked eye, but the research on the morphology of digestive system has not been reported. Materials, Methods & Results: Twenty adult Anourosorex squamipes were selected to investigate the characteristics of the appearance, including the contour parameters (body weight, body length, forefoot length, posterior foot length, nasal length, tail length), digestive system parameters (length of esophagus, intestinal length, intestinal weight, stomach weight and liver weight) and morphological structure of the small intestine by histological methods. The results showed that there were no significant differences in body weight, body length, forefoot length, posterior foot length, nasal length and tail length between males and females in Anourosorex squamipes, and no significant differences were observed in parameters of digestive system in length of esophagus, intestinal length, intestinal weight, stomach weight and liver weight. There were no significant differences in villus height, muscular layer thickness and villus height/recess depth (V/C) between males and females, but only ileal crypt depth decreased significantly in males. Discussion: Animal morphological characteristics are closely related to their life habits, unique organs and lifestyles ensure that they thrive on earth. In our study, we found that unique characters are found by observing the appearance of Anourosorex squamipes, the snout is blunt and short, the eyes are degenerated, and the tail is very short and covered with scales, which may be related to its feeding habits, the living environment-long-term nocturnal life in underground with minimal exposure to sunlight, and the unique tail can reduce the friction between tail and soil during the movement. There are certain differences in the appearance parameters of male and female Anourosorex squamipes, but are not significant. The esophagus, stomach, intestine, liver and other parameters of Anourosorex squamipes have little difference between males and females, indicating that Anourosorex squamipes don’t have obvious distinctions between males and females in food intake. However, the liver weight of male Anourosorex squamipes is larger than female, indicating that the physiological metabolic capacity of male is larger than female. It is speculated that this may be related to the difference in the amount of activity between males and females in daily life. Males are more active and require more energy, but their digestion and absorption abilities are weaker than females. Therefore, the male Anourosorex squamipes needs more food to provide energy to meet the daily physiological metabolism, and the larger stomach capacity provides the essential conditions for the male to store more food. In addition, we found that the crypt depth of male Anourosorex squamipes is generally greater than that of females, especially in the ileal crypt depth, indicating that the female’s cell maturation rate is greater than that of the male. It is speculated that the female has a greater demand for nutrient absorption and better digestion and absorption of food, because females need to give birth to offspring and require greater nutrition.   Keywords: Anourosorex squamipes, contour characteristics, digestive system, small intestine

    De Novo Assembly and Characterization of Bud, Leaf and Flowers Transcriptome from Juglans Regia L. for the Identification and Characterization of New EST-SSRs

    Persian walnut (Juglans regia L.), valued for both its nut and wood, is an ecologically important temperate tree species native to the mountainous regions of central Asia. Despite its importance, there are still few transcriptomic resources in public databases for J. regia, limiting gene discovery and breeding. Here, more than 49.9 million sequencing reads were generated using Illumina sequencing technology in the characterization of the transcriptome of four J. regia organs (bud, leaf, female flowers, and male flowers). De novo assembly yielded 117,229 unigenes with an N50 of 1955 bp. Based on sequence similarity searches against known proteins, a total of 20,413 (17.41%) genes were identified and annotated. A set of 27,584 unigenes with SSR (simple sequence repeats) motifs were identified as potential molecular markers, and a sample of 77 of these EST-SSRs (express sequence tags) were further evaluated to validate their amplification and assess their polymorphism. Next, we developed 39 polymorphic microsatellite markers to screen 88 Persian walnut individuals collected from 11 populations. These markers and transcriptomic resources will be useful for future studies of population genetic structure, evolutionary ecology, and breeding of Persian walnut and other Juglans species

    Genetic analysis and QTL mapping of aroma volatile compounds in the apple progeny ‘Fuji’ × ‘Cripps Pink’

    Aroma is an essential trait for apple fruit quality, but the understanding of biochemical mechanisms underlying aroma formation is still limited. To better characterize and assess the genetic potential for improving aroma quality for breeding, many efforts have been paid to map quantitative trait loci (QTLs) using a saturated molecular linkage map. In the present study, aroma profiles in ripe fruit of F1 population between ‘Fuji’ and ‘Cripps Pink’ were evaluated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) over 2019 and 2020 years, and the genetics of volatile compounds were dissected. In total, 38 volatile compounds were identified in ‘Fuji’ × ‘Cripps Pink’ population, including 23 esters, 3 alcohols, 7 aldehydes and 5 others. With the combination of aroma phenotypic data and constructed genetic linkage map, 87 QTLs were detected for 15 volatile compounds on 14 linkage groups (LGs). Among them, a set of QTLs associated with ester production identified and confirmed on LG 6. A candidate gene MdAAT6 in the QTL mapping interval was detected. Over-expression of MdAAT6 in tomato and apple fruits showed significantly higher esters accumulation compared to the control, indicating it was critical for the ester production. Our results give light on the mode of inheritance of the apple volatilome and provide new insights for apple flavor improvement in the future

    Pt nanoparticles decorated rose-like Bi2O2CO3 configurations for efficient photocatalytic removal of water organic pollutants

    Pt nanoparticles decorated with rose-like Bi2O2CO3 configurations were synthesized via a simple photoreduction method at room temperature. The structure, morphology, optical and electronic properties, and photocatalytic performance of the as-prepared materials were characterized. Compared to pure Bi2O2CO3, the Pt/Bi2O2CO3 photocatalysts show better performance in decomposing RhB, BPA and OTC under visible light (? > 420 nm). The enhanced photocatalytic activity of Pt/Bi2O2CO3 could be attributed to the modification in light absorption (? > 420 nm) charge migration and the separation of photo-generated electrons (e?) and holes (h+). Free radical trapping experiments demonstrated that the main active species of the catalytic reaction are different in decomposing RhB and BPA.publishersversionPeer reviewe
